Wonderful places near you that worth a visit, while at Elounda Apartments
The resort of Elounda is a small fishing village situated on the northern coast of Crete, approximately fifty minutes east from Heraklion airport.
It's surrounded by rugged mountains that tumble down to the virtually land locked bay.
The sheltered bay's clear waters are shallow and warm, perfect for all kinds of water sports. Just three kilometers along the coast lies the tiny hamlet of Plaka with spectacular views of Spinalonga island opposite. Local boats from either Elounda or Plaka offer trips to Spinalonga and the deserted island of Kolokitha for swimming, snorkeling, fishing and barbecue.
The main beach has plenty of sun beds and umbrellas. Just out of the village more secluded beaches can be found, some are lined with palm trees offering welcome shade for fairer skins.
The beach at Driros offers wind surfing and water skiing for beginners, intermediates and advanced.
The village square is quiet by day and comes alive during the evening with lots of good restaurants and bars, most of which you can sit and people watch or enjoy a candle lit dinner overlooking the bay.
On the other side of the causeway Elounda plays host to some of the leading hotels of the world, which are open to non-residents for lunch or dinner.
The town of Aghious Nikolaos, just over the mountain from Elounda, is much bigger and livelier by night, offering many restaurants, bars and discos.
